Oprah’s Book Club and CNN are teaming up for a “worldwide web event” in support of Uwem Akpan’s Say You’re One of Them. Tonight at 9:00 p.m. ET, Oprah Winfrey will interview the author, a Nigerian-born Catholic priest, for a video simulcast on Oprah.com and CNN.com. During the 90-minute interactive event, participants can watch the interview, submit their questions for the author, and discuss it all with each other.
CNN’s iReport describes Say You’re One of Them as:
[…]five stories from five different countries in Africa, told from a child’s perspective.
They deal with prostitution, the child sex trade, slavery, refugees, religious strife – but more than that these stories expose the incredible capability of children to deal with the horrors of misfortune, and the other-worldly wisdom that circumstance has given them.
Participants are requested to RSVP for the event. Once registered, you can take advantage of a free download of the first story in the collection.
In preparation for the event, check out Oprah’s companion materials for the book and CNN’s special reports, photo galleries, videos and interactive guides about Say You’re One of Them and Africa.
